Conditions Acupuncture and Chinese medicince can treat

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture can be very effective in treating many childhood conditions and behavioural problems. Due to the nature of Chinese medicine, a treatment is adapted specifically to a Child’s individual needs, which is why it is so effective.

In some Children’s treatment needles may not need to be used, simple acupressure, moxa or electrical stimulation of a point may have a better response, this will vary depending on each Childs presentation.  Sometimes lifestyle or dietary advice may need to be followed alongside treatment.

Children of all ages can be treated successfully, most commonly 1 to teenage years but occasionally younger children are treated. If the child is under 7 years of age, they will be treated seated on their parents or guardians lap. Over the age of 7 they will be treated on the couch, if the child and parent are comfortable. Children under the age of 7 will never have needles retained for any period of time, all needles are inserted, stimulated and then withdrawn.

Children’s treatment does not last as long as an adult treatment. Each treatment will last between 15-20 minutes.

The number of treatments each child will need, depends on the presenting condition and how long they have been suffering. This can vary from 1 - 10 for simple conditions, to 10 – 20 for more deep seated conditions. Please contact me if you would like more specific information.

Sports Therapy and Massage

Children who play a lot of sport, or have hobbies that involve activity, although not in the same severity as adults, are prone to picking up knocks or pulls.  Therapy rehabilitation and massage can be adapted to a child to help them recover quicker or prevent injury in exactly the same way as an adult. Please enquire for more details.
